Over the last year we have seen a massive rise in the number of brides we speak to who are planning their wedding on a weekday. This may initially seem like a bad idea, you have to think about whether your guests will be able to take the time off work and whether they will be able to enjoy your reception without worrying about how they will feel at work the next day! However, planning a mid week wedding does have it’s plus points.

1 – Availability - As less brides opt for a mid week wedding the chances of your favorite venue and preferred suppliers being available on your wedding date is considerably higher.

2 – Budget Wedding Packages – Lots of hotels are now catching on to this so far untapped market and are offering complete mid week wedding packages for anything from £1000-5000 all in! That’s a massive saving!

3 – Discounts on suppliers – Many wedding suppliers do special discounts on their services for mid-week bookings. Some offer up to 50% off their weekend prices! Check out our Mid-week wedding disco deal here!

4 – It won’t clash with any other events – Getting married on a Monday means that the chances of it clashing with another wedding or another important event are slim.

5 – It beats working a monday morning!

So there you have it – 5 reasons to get married on a Monday. If you are planning a midweek wedding get in touch to find out about out mid week wedding deal!

The first dance is an important part of any wedding reception. All your guests are completely focused on you and your partner and are eager to see what you have planned. Dancing is often not a skill both of you will have developed unless you regularly take part in dance classes and even then how do you choose the right song?

We have been present at hundreds of weddings and have therefor built up a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn’t. I am writing this blog as a simple guide to planning your first dance and making sure it is one your friends and family will remember for the right reasons.

What do you want?

The first thing you need to decide is what kind of first dance do you want? Do you want a slow romantic dance, a choreographed dance like a waltz or a foxtrot, a comedy dance or a mash up of all the songs important to you and your new spouse? If you are not sure then You Tube is an excellent place to look for ideas. Once you have decided on the type can get on with choosing your song.

The Song

Choosing the right song is very important and very difficult. Not only should it be something that suits the style you have chosen but ideally it should be one that means something to you and your partner. Try to think back over your time together, are there any songs that stand out? If not do you know of any songs that have relevant lyrics? Try using something like spotify to listen to possible tracks and ask you rfriends for suggestions. Try to avoid any songs that are about splittin gup or arguments as no matter how nice the song is to dance to the lyrics will overshadow it.

The Dance

Once you have chosen your style and your song it is time to start thinking about your dance. Getting a dance instructor to help you even if you do not want a fully choreographed dance can be a good idea. they will be able to give you a few pointers on what will work with your song and what to avoid. Make sure you practice before the big day. Lots! Nerves will undoubtedly show up on the day and the more practice you have had the easier and more enjoyable your first dance will be.

On the Day

Make sure your dj or toastmaster knows what time you plan on doing your first dance. Usually between 7.30/8pm is a good time because all the guests have arrived but the party has not yet got going. Get your best man to confirm with the dj or toastmaster when you are ready to go on. Take a deep breath and relax. Remember at the end of the day your first dance is about you and your new partner, it doesn’t matter what your guests think and doesn’t matter if you make a mistake. Just enjoy yourselves.

The Infamous Wedding DJ Reputation

The wedding disco business is a hard industry to be in. There is not only a lot of competition but there are also a lot of people out there calling themselves wedding djs who give us all a bad rep. You have all met them. Usually a man in his 40s-50s who turns up late with his 2 box lights and cd player, refuses to play anything but 80s music and brings his miserable looking wife along to sit behind the decks with him.

These people call themselves DJs but really they have just bought a couple of disco lights and speakers and thinks thats all it takes. Wrong. Supplying a successful disco for a wedding requires a lot of talent and experience OF WEDDINGS! A wedding is not like a 21st birthday or a club night. At a wedding there is such a wide age range and eclectic array of guests that on a talented DJ will be able to keep the dancefloor going all night. At a wedding it is imperative to get it right, it is the most important day in these peoples lives and there will (hopefully) never be the chance for them to do it again.

I speak to a lot of people about what I do and they are always eager to share their bad DJ stories. I have heard of DJs that get drunk, have inadequate equipment, play all their music from You Tube, get the brides name wrong, show up late, don’t show up at all and even one that instead of being behind the decks doing his job was on the dance floor snogging a bridesmaid! Horrendous.

It is usually easy to avoid these DJs providing you know what to look for, in my next post I will tell you how.
